West Virginia's Mitchell Suspended Indefinitely

Jan 25, 2011 6:18 AM

West Virginia's leading scorer, Casey Mitchell, was suspended indefinitely Monday for an undisclosed violation of team rules.

Mountaineers coach Bob Huggins didn't elaborate in a statement announcing the suspension.

Mitchell also was suspended indefinitely by Huggins in October for violating team rules, but he didn't miss any games.

WVU's Kilicli Prefers Bench Role

Jan 24, 2011 4:53 PM

Deniz Kilicli, who has started 12 games for West Virginia, prefers to come off the bench.

“Every time I start, they’re [officials] just looking at me because I’m European, because I’m 6-9, because I’m whatever,” says Kilicli.

“They always look at me and I get travel, fouls called in the first two minutes of the game, so I told [Huggins], ‘What do you think if I just come off the bench?’ And he was like, ‘If that’s how you feel comfortable, that’s completely fine with me.’ So I’m going to come off the bench probably the rest of the year.”

WVU Rebounds With Victory Over South Florida

Jan 24, 2011 6:01 AM

No. 21 West Virginia defeated South Florida 56-46 on Sunday to rebound from a tough loss to Marshall.

Mountaineers coach Bob Huggins joked that Casey Mitchell has suddenly become good at rebounding because he senses where his errant shots will end up. Mitchell got his first career double-double with 13 points and 14 rebounds in the win.

“I told (South Florida coach Stan Heath) that he misses so many that he knows where they are going,” Huggins said. “We’ve been on him to rebound the ball.

“We need him to rebound the ball at both ends. We don’t have real explosive guys in there so we need him to go to the boards.”

West Virginia's Jennings Walks Off During Game

Jan 24, 2011 5:48 AM

West Virginia forward Dan Jennings, who dressed for Sunday's game against South Florida but didn't play, walked away from the bench in the second half.

Mountaineers coach Bob Huggins said the player's exit was "unexcused, inexcusable. Never to be seen again, I guess."

Jennings averaged 2 points and 2.5 rebounds in 14 games this season, including four starts.

"I understand that you have to report it and that's fine but can we talk about the guys that play?" Huggins said. "Because he didn't play anyways and hasn't played. The truth of the matter is that he's been a nonentity. We started him to try and get some other guys motivated and he did work hard in practice for a while, but look at his career stats."

"I don't think anybody else is coming in."

The 6-foot-10, 260-pounder is a native of Middletown, Connecticut and says he doesn't have any visits scheduled.

Huggins Worried About WVU's Mistakes

Jan 7, 2011 12:53 PM

West Virginia let a big second half lead slip away and had to rely on a miss to notch a narrow win over DePaul on Tuesday night.

"We just make bad decisions," coach Bob Huggins said. "We shouldn't make as bad as decisions as we do, because we have guys who have experience."

Mountaineers point guard Truck Bryant said one of those bad decisions was taking shots too quickly instead of forcing DePaul to play more defense.

"Me and Joe Mazzulla just made mistakes that freshmen make at the end," Bryant said. "I should have held the ball out and let them chase us when we're up 14, but we felt like we could get to the rim and get easy layups. It didn't go as planned and it came back on us."
